Since our founding in 2009, UNITEDHANDSACROSSTHECITY.ORG has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families in our community. We have grown from a small team of volunteers to a full-service social work agency, and we continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of our community. For over fifteen years United Hands Across The City has volunteered to reduce the conduct of recidivism with participatory defense programming and has reduced Substance abuse/use of legal and illicit substances within our community. United Hands Across the City is dedicated and committed to providing Evidence-Based Early Intervention/Prevention programs which are programs in compliance with the Wisconsin Health Plan to ensure educational awareness, treatment resources and support groups to youth and adults of alcohol and other drug abuse which include: Community-based Interventions, School-based Interventions and Individual-level Interventions.
United Hands Across The City partnerships with efforts that help build capacity for neighborhoods to reduce the demand for alcohol and drugs, and reduce the harms that substance abuse creates.
United Hands Across The City has partnerships with organizations, churches, healthcare agencies, residents and others that assists in developing coordinated human service systems that are cultural, gender, and age appropriate.
United Hands Across The City partners with efforts that develop effective, quality planning involving analysis of needs, resources, and information for and from the affected population.
United Hands Across The City partners with efforts that help develop neighborhood family-oriented service systems to assist "at risk" and justice impacted population groups to move toward better service utilization and self-sufficiency as a perquisite to ATODA prevention/intervention services.
United Hands Across The City(Early Intervention Prevention)EIP is designed from a proven Public Health Model initiative from around the country. "
United Hands Across The City EIP" is a community-based alcohol, tobacco and other drug education prevention/intervention program for youth, parents, justice impacted communities, caregivers of children/youth and communities, which seeks to strengthen the bonds between adults, recovery and mental health coaching system support networks strengthening youth and adults while providing opportunities of positive community involvement. UHATC programing employs a culturally sensitive curriculum outlining strategies for Public Health Model prevention/intervention, drug identification, and understanding of social and environmental factors, which can impede the lives of children/youth, families and communities. Since 2009
United Hands Across The City EIP, the prevention approach in addressing ATODA has shifted from the traditional individual-oriented education to a more community strength based, peer recovery coaching approach that promotes the adoption of research and strength-based approaches at the city, county and community level through a six-step process:

United Hands Across The City EIP identifies and assesses ATODA intervention/prevention needs/risks based on our on-going data relevant to the specific communities
1. United Hands Across The City EIP serve.
Prioritize:
United Hands Across The City EIP establish local intervention/prevention priorities based upon the local assessment and community input, including input from the culturally diverse populations and justice impacted communities
2. United hands Across The City EIP serve all gender, race, creed disabled and aged.
Measurable:
3. United Hands Across The City EIP designs and implements intervention/ prevention actions/systems that have clearly stated purposes and desired outcomes that are measurable and sustainable.
Research-based approaches:
4. United Hands Across The City EIP has selected specific implementation strategies, approaches, coaching programs, and actions that research and evaluation evidence that has demonstrated to be effective in reducing ATODA-related problems.
Improvement:
5. United Hands Across The City EIP assess progress toward the goals and objectives and use data to continuously refine, improve, and strengthen ATODA intervention/prevention policies, strategies, coaching, services, and actions.
Specialization:
6. United Hands Across The City EIP presents its intervention/prevention material in a different educational peer recovery coaching format to accommodate diverse communities, justice impacted settings, schools, and their specific needs. The overall goal of the program is to increase the awareness and protective factors for all populations that are high-risk or at risk, justice impacted, children/youth & adults in order to prevent, reduce, or delay the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs along with the problems associated with stopping such use.
Brief summary of the project/program including:
• How does the project address Fundable Projects and Target Population and Programs.
United Hands Across The City Evidence-Based Early Intervention/Prevention curriculum addresses BWTC and JFS’s Fighting Back project areas of concern on all three levels Community-based interventions that target environmental changes needed in order to reduce the impact of substance abuse on our community: including full participation in existing coalitions committed to: (a) reducing youth & adult access to alcohol and other drugs by educating and coaching parents and servers of alcohol and other substances ; (b) advocating for increased attention to using zoning and municipal strategies to restrict alcohol and other drug access; (c) enhancing responsible beverage service through education of local vendors - particularly those who have a history of infractions; (d) advocating for increased sobriety checkpoints. Justice Impacted and school- based interventions that engage schools in the development of a media campaign focused on increasing awareness about: (a) the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs; (b) the dangers of drinking while impaired; and (c) the hazards of abusing prescription medications. Individual-level interventions that target specific priority areas based on epidemiological data, including: (a) underage drinking; (b)young adult binge drinking; (c) drinking among women of childbearing age; (d) drinking among women who are pregnant.
• Aside from your programming, what makes your program unique?
United Hands Across The City EIP uniqueness is its ability °to implement, peer recovery coaching, trauma informed care and mental health coaching evidenced-based practices aiding sensitive intervention/prevention educational material. The rapport building process between
United Hands Across The City staff, course room participants, their support systems, and community partners, is recognized as an essential element in the achievement of measurable outcome goals. It's the ability to identify and address problematic concerns multi-culturally, providing the community mobilization virtual model to achieve and sustain ATODA intervention/prevention activities among different ethnic groups.
United Hands Across The City EIP recognized the need to empower participants served on how to address ATODA problems in their communities.
United hands Across The City EIP will apply a scientific peer recovery coaching trauma informed care method and mental health support to ensure that ATODA intervention/prevention education is empirically founded, and will be provided in the Public Health Model, and DHHS framework.
• Is your program gender specific?
Yes. Although we integrate our services with male and female participant there are times that our program will utilize a gender specific format.
United Hands Across The City intervention/prevention programming recognizes the need to implement gender specific competitive formulas with some of our prevention/intervention educational formats. There will be episodes where the gender specifies format will be used to implement some of our programming.
• AODA project/program outcomes and strategy for achieving them.
United Hands Across The City EIP outcomes will be verbal and written evidence (pre/posttests results in terms of awareness) of resistance and refusal to the onset of drugs used or tried by program participants. The strategies include role-play, educational information, family participation, group sessions, mind challenging games, presentations, coaching, videos, activity workbooks and art therapy
